Why Little Loud Fish?

My name's Rebecca Roberts, and I started my musical journey by diving straight into the deep end—my first professional gig was singing backing vocals for my mum live on prime-time TV (The Late Late Show), aged just 16, before I’d even started my first tour of Ireland. No pressure!

That experience led me to a role in Aspects of Love alongside my mum and John Barrowman—a surreal and incredible opportunity.

After the musical, I went on to study at Leeds, where I had the incredible opportunity to study alongside some of the most respected jazz musicians in the world, who I still collaborate with to this day.

Following that, I worked as a guest artist on cruise ships. But when I wasn’t singing on the high seas, I was passionately advocating for equality and environmental causes. It felt a bit like a hypocritical existence—singing on cruise ships while trying to save the planet! Not surprisingly, as my lyrics increasingly reflected these themes, fewer bookings were coming in.

So, after sailing through that chapter, I decided to dive deeper into my artistic self.

To truly explore my potential, I pursued a Master's at Tileyard in Songwriting and Music Production. I developed my project and christened it Danionella.

Hightlights so far

I've been lucky enough to work with some of my absolute favourite artists and inspirations, including Glen Tilbrook (Squeeze), Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), and Blur at their epic Wembley Stadium reunion gig. Another childhood dream came true when Eleanor McEvoy invited me to sing A Woman’s Heart with her.

Being a proud Yorkshire lass, I was honoured when John Godber asked me to provide music for his film Last Laugh. Festivals are my happy place, from the energy of SXSW in Austin to a gloriously rainy August in Edinburgh.

I’m also a proud member of the London Community Gospel Choir, performing in magical settings—including, of course, the iconic Royal Albert Hall.

Green rooms have been home to some of my favourite moments. None more so than my first ever TV job—where a true legend, Spike Milligan, calmed my nerves before I went on… for what turned out to be his final television appearance.

And any chance to get back on stage with my mam is always something special.

Recent projects

In 2024, after graduating with a Distinction (all to impress my mam, of course), I’ve been deep in the studio producing new songs with Dave Hemingway (The Housemartins / The Beautiful South), set for release in 2025.

I love working with exciting up-and-coming artists, buzzing to collaborate with fresh talent and bring new sounds to life. Big things ahead!

I am also heading back into the land of theatre this year, currently composing a brand new musical.
